Alexithymia, Masking, Camouflaging and Synesthesia.

This two-day online training course introduces you to a “model for
understanding & supporting autistic people who experience
Alexithymia / Low Interoceptive Awareness, Masking and Synesthesia.”
Essential knowledge and skills when supporting autistic people with co-
occurring mental health conditions.
You can take this course as a stand-alone module or as Module 4 in the
BPS Approved Certificate and Diploma in Autism and Mental Health.  All
course materials are available online via a learning management platform
so you can complete at your own pace and time.
 
What will I learn on this course?
  • How Alexithymia, Masking/Camouflaging and Synesthesia may
    present.
  • The overlaps between Alexithymia and Low Interoceptive
    Awareness
  • Impact of Alexithymia and Low Interoceptive Awareness on mental
    health.
  • Ability to spot the signs of Alexithymia and low interoceptive
    awareness using the “Spotting the Signs Tool and related screening
    tools.”
  • How to use two Psychoeducation Tools, “What is Alexithymia?” &
    “What is Interoception?”
  • How to spot the signs of masking and camouflaging amongst
    autistic people
  • Understand the impact of masking and camouflaging on self-
    identity, self-esteem, self-acceptance and mental health.
  • Ability to use the camouflaging autistic traits screening tool.
  • Understand how Synesthesia may present and impacts on mental
    health.
  • Ability to use the, “ Every behaviour is a communication “ARC Tool.”
  • Introduction to Mindfulness as a tool for increasing mind body
    awareness, responses to external stimuli, recognition of bodily
    signals and what helps to maintain balance.
  • Ability to use a range practices, resources, psychoeducation tools,
    worksheets and strategies for increasing self-awareness, self-
    acceptance, balance and improved mental health.
  • Reviewed the literature and best practice approaches for
    supporting autistic people who experience alexithymia, low
    interoceptive awareness, masking/camouflaging and synesthesia.
  • Access to supplementary psychoeducation, learning materials and
    resources.
